After establishing herself as an accomplished solo singer, Chichi is preparing to set out on what promises to be a successful professional career. Her early launch into the world of music, together with expert tuition, tireless dedication and a wealth of natural talent, makes this a truly exciting prospect. Chichi began singing seriously when she was 14, fronting an R&B outfit which played cover versions to audiences at her Colchester school. Extensive piano tuition throughout her school years has given her a sound musical grounding and provided her with the necessary tools for her present song writing projects. On moving to London in 1992, Chichi immediately joined a hip-hop orientated R&B band called ‘Red Ninja’ where as lead singer she recorded a variety of studio tracks. Probably the most positive influence on her early career has been that of Joe Benjamin who runs the acclaimed soul opera outfit ‘First Steps’. Singing in the rich environment of the group allowed Chichi to develop and diversify her own musical tastes and talents. Chichi has also spent time with the highly regarded Kensington&Chelsea Performance Troupe, which performs at festivals as far as wide as Cannes and Edinburgh. As a member of the group, Chichi had no qualms about performing before a 75.000 strong audience at the 1998 Wembley FA Cup Final. Chichi also attended the 2001 Barbados Jazz Festival where she was booked as backing vocals to support artistes such as Omar, Incognito and Courtney Pine. While citing Luther Vandross and Dionne Warwick as her early musical loves, she feels it vital to retain her own distinct style. Her song writing has a wide range of influences, not least the funk heavy era of the eighties. Chichi’s love for singing shines through as she is a member of the choir at her local church and also sang with the well established London Community Gospel Choir for a number of years where as a Christian, she travelled worldwide and nationwide performing at ‘Live 8’ in 2005 for Madonna and visiting countries such as Ghana, Morocco, Austria, Germany, France and many more, ministering and touching lives of others through song. During her time with the choir, Chichi was nicknamed ‘Chichi Armstrong’ as she does an incredible impersonation of the late, great Louis Armstrong. It is fantastic to hear and has audiences up on their feet leaving them wanting more! Chichi recently released her EP album on iTunes entitled ‘THE RIGHT TRACK’. ‘KEEP IT REAL’ , one of the four tracks on the album, contains what she believes are the main ingredients for any song - a catchy melody, a great rhythm and a positive message. “This song encourages the listener not to worry about life whether times get tough or not and to keep life simple as tomorrow is another day”. ‘THE RIGHT TRACK’ is an up tempo track that sends out a message to inspire and motivate people, keep them believing in themselves and staying on the right track. ‘FIND THE WAY’ is a slow tune with a reggae/jazz rhythm which tells a story about looking for a better path to follow that will bring us to a desired end. ‘BRIGHTER DAY’ is also an uplifting track where the listener can be encouraged by the lyrics knowing that there will soon be a brighter day if we choose so. Chichi has recently been recording a reggae gospel album and has performed alongside reggae artists such as Peter Hunningale, Neureus Joseph and Max Romeo. Chichi’s purpose is to generally bring encouragement, inspiration, motivation and joy to peoples’ lives through her music.
