D Anom is a new age producer with an old skool flex... Interview by Naomi Searle for http://theeverydaypeople.wordpress.com “It’s about making a positive difference…I am not about the money and fame…” This is D Anom’s reason for pursuing his passion in music. Now an accomplished record producer, he initially doubted his ability to make music. “It started in 2002,” he says, “my long time friend Sheyi said to me that if I could DJ and listen to so much music I could make music. I said to him, “I don’t know how to make music; I just know how to listen and make people dance.” But with Sheyi’s belief in me, I learned the basics of music making. I had many influences but Sheyi was there from the beginning.” Throwing himself into his new project, D was soon spending nearly twelve hours a day in the studio learning all the tricks of the trade and now records, composes, arranges, mixes and masters in many genres of music. “My influences come from all over the world, it makes my approach to music different and diverse,” he says. Not satisfied simply creating music, D has also done music and sound effects for animation, academic work and recently composed some music for an actor/rapper’s cabaret performance. “I enjoy continuing to explore and work in many fields related to what I do.” His motivation in continuing on this career path comes from his passion and the many influential people in his life. “I’m motivated by my loving Angel Mother and God who gave me these gifts in the first place… and all the important people in my life who believe in me and see the bigger picture in what I am doing.” D’s career has come a long way in 10 years, an outcome he did not anticipate. “I did not expect to be doing what I am doing now and I did not expect to love it as much as I do,” he says. “Even with the trials and tests in my life I would do it again and again. This, to me, is my way of making a difference in the world.” In five years time D hopes to have had hit singles around the world as well as having his own music label. These are goals that have been a long time in the making. “Music always has its time,” he says, “and I am working on being at a high level for years to come. This is my progression – I have kept a low profile in music until now as I believe my time is coming soon…” D Anom
