Bio
Hi my name is Steve Masters. I have been playing the sax for about 22 years, but have only started playing jazz in the last 4 years. I learned to read music about 3 years ago, so playing jazz is a tough cookie for me to break, but thoroughly enjoy playing. I belong to The Langstone Swing band and Pyramid Wind band, both of which present a great challenge. Reading and playing Nestico arrangements has certainly improved my sight reading, but I enjoy playing melodic 50's style modern jazz standards and ballads especially West Coast. As you might expect, my favs are 'Bird' Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges, Sonny Stitt, Zoot Simms, Hank Mobly, Paul Desmond and the like, (loads more). I thought I'd have go at some home recording and have showcased a few songs I really enjoy playing and listening to. If there are any jazzers out there that have a free thursday afternoon and live in south hampshire visit the Havant Arts Centre, there's a great workshop there being run by Mike Birch. You'll enjoy playing with like minded muso's who just really enjoy playing jazz at every opportunity.
