Ruan van der Kuil, currently 18 years of age, is not an unfamiliar name in the local music circles in port Elizabeth South Africa. Ruan was born in Port Elizabeth South Africa in 1994/11/17. Ruan realized from a very early age that he wanted to be singer/performer. He performs locally and nationally at big festivals as well as doing charity events ie. Retirement villages, corporate functions etc. He is a singer , songwriter and performer and his stage personality is very energetic . He is doing voice training with a talented local singer who motivates and inspires him . He has a versatile voice and enjoy singing different genres. He entered his first competition, Bay Fm/Jip singing competition , at the age of ten and won the title “ Best upcoming artist”. One of the prizes he won was a weekend voucher at the Tsitsikamma Hotel and there he wrote his first song called “Tsitsikamma”.This song reached the No 1 position on Bay Fm Top 5 local sounds in August 2010 and also played for 15 weeks which is the maximum weeks required. In 2008 and 2009 he won 1st prize in the Bay Fm/Jip singing competition in his age category. In the Bay Fm Spring competition he was invited as a guest artist. He recorded 3 songs writen for him by his dad as well as 2 songs written by Semandi Gerber, who won a competition for songwriting, and Marc Welgemoed. He won various prizes in other singing competitions and also shared the stage with various celebrities ie. Shawn Tait , David Fourie,Wicus v d Merwe, Zak van Niekerk, Thys die Bosveld Klong, Sarah Theron, Dowwe Dolla and Tommy Dell. In 2008 a joung lady, Monique van Driel, joined him in singing as a duette group and call themselves “Ruanique”. They started singing at “Goue Drome” a local monthly competition for upcoming artists and there they have achieved a position in the winning circle every month as well as awards at the annual Supra event. The highlight of his singing carrier thus far was when he, as a vocalist as well as duette group, won 2 Gold, 2, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals at the “SA Championships for performing Arts” in Rustenburg in April 2010.
