New Orleans, Louisiana native Prince Balak has been doing music for more than half his life. Having written his first song at the tender age of seven, he has long been in love with Hip-Hop and music as a whole. Influenced by music heavyweights such as Brooklyn, New York's Jay-Z, The Dirty South's Cash Money Records, and even musical icon Michael Jackson, Prince Balak was born with music in his blood. Born and raised in New Orleans, Prince Balak started out in a Hip-Hop group with his child hood friend Tyson, performing as the adolescent group the “Lyrical Assassins”. Eventually the two would be separated when Tyson was picked up by a local label, leaving young Prince Balak to fiend for himself. Not one to give up on his dreams, the young MC continued to perfect his craft, as he put it, “to become one of the best rappers ever”, and from the ages of 15 through 17, wrote and recorded six solo mix tapes in his home studio. Within that same timespan, Prince Balak also gained a reputation as one of the best battle rappers in the city. Eventually, Prince would form his own record label, Alumni Army, and ignite a fire on the music scene with his unpredictable rapping/harmonizing tunes. Creative, original, entertaining, and Godly are all words used to describe the work of Prince Balak. As Brooklynite Talib Kweli put it, “the game needs his perspective.” Possessing one of the traits of Biggie, Jay-Z, and Lil' Wayne, he writes most of his music in his head, a skill picked up riding subways while briefly living in Washington, D.C. and Queens, New York. No stranger to the tedious grind of the music business he has sold thousands of copies of his work on the streets himself, shaking hands, meeting, and making new fans. Upon reaching 21 years of age, he invested hundreds of dollars into books about the music business to ensure that his future would be bright in an all too often shady industry. In 2008, Prince released his now classic mixtape The Basement Vol...1 and started to produce his own tracks. Currently at work on The Basement Vol...2 and a full length album, titled Alumni Radio, which he is writing and producing all himself, expect great things from the young artist now and for years to come!
