La’Shawn La’Shawn Jackson was born and raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York. At the age of five La’Shawn’s grandmother was the first to discover her talent when she got up to sing her rendition of “Going Up Yonder” in her church’s Youth Choir. Growing up as the songbird of the family, La’Shawn has always been supported and encouraged to pursue her love for music. Not only does she have the support of her family and friends, she has also earned the love of her fan club as well. Since then, it’s been no stopping her. As a teenager she competed in many talent competitions in which she always took first place. January 10. 1990, La’Shawn won her biggest competition ever when she took the stage at the world famous Apollo Theatre and won 1st place out of 26 other competitors, with her rendition of Stephanie Mills “Home”. The applause she received was more than overwhelming, but to hear her name as the winner, that will be the moment that she will never forget. La’Shawn’s talent does not end with just being a vocalist. She acts as well. She holds credits as portraying off Broadway the roll of Effie Melody White, a role played by Jennifer Holiday from the Broadway musical “Dreamgirls”, in which she belted out “And I Am Telling You” and brought the audience to their feet. Through collaboration with her producers of RM & G-Long Productions and Roni Rone Productions, who gave her the freedom to express herself, through their music La’Shawn has written songs that not only women but men can identify with as well. “Reflection of Me” the title of her Debut CD has earned her the slot of being nominated for Best R & B Female in the 3RD Annual Underground Music Awards of 2005. La’Shawn speaks about the reality of the streets and decisions we make when it comes to matters of the heart, lies and temptations. La’Shawn wanted to be able to reach who ever listened to her music and know they could actually look in the mirror only to see themselves looking back.
