Bio
Born in Bristol , United Kingdom , Victor Johnson aka Jayvic grew up listening to R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul, Jazz and Gospel music." I was listening to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, NWA, NOTOURIOUS B.I.G, 2Pac, Boyz II Men and Babyface to name a few," Jayvic says. Jayvic stood out amongst his peers and this prompted his father to push him into creative writing as a method to develop his writing skills and confidence. At the tender age of 11, Jayvic’s talent as a writer and performer began to blossom when he got into writing poems, articles and singing live at birthday parties. Jayvic’s parents are originally from Nigeria and so he returned there at the age of 12 along with his family after his father gained a job contract. Jayvic’s father was adamant that he wanted both Jayvic and his younger brother to learn and understand Nigerian culture. Jayvic benefited from living abroad. His passion for music remained the same and there was an incident he recalled whilst in school in Nigeria . “I was sometimes disruptive in class and got punished for it but one day, this particular teacher got tired of punishing me in traditional fashion and so he demanded that I sang in front of my classmates and several other students. His plan to humiliate me backfired because the students enjoyed my singing and applauded my performance at the end of that unexpected show. Some even went as far as comparing me to the late great, Michael Jackson, because of my dance moves,” Jayvic says. At the age of 16, Jayvic became the lead vocalist at The Church Christ Embassy. Jayvic and his family returned to the UK when he turned 17. They moved to East London and Jayvic continued with his studies and singing. He attended Stratford Newham College and then furthered his education in media and TV studies at Kingston University in Surrey . It was during this period that Jayvic began to take his music seriously. He strongly believed he could make a name for himself as an artist in the music industry through his song writing, singing and dancing abilities. MTV BASE required 10 aspiring artists to perform alongside the Sugababes at the Hugo Urban Rules and so they held an audition which was attended by approximately 400 hundred artists including Jayvic. The judges were impressed with Jayvic’s performance and selected him as one of the ten artists they needed for the upcoming show. Jayvic didn’t let the success of the Hugo Urban rules distract him from his main goals. He pressed on with his ambitions and in the year 2008, he got into the UK live and unsigned show where he made it through as one of the finalists. Jayvic’s started writing for other artists and joggled that with performing at local gigs, pubs and birthday parties. Jayvic increased his publicity by contacting universities across the UK and he got the full awareness from his local area in the process. Then in 2009, Jayvic performed alongside the chart topping, UK rapper, Bashy. Jayvic was unfazed by the grand occasion and delivered an impressive performance which boosted his fan base. His suave, romantic style and sexy image captured the attention of female fans whilst his energy and dance moves appealed to male supporters. Later that year, Jayvic was spotted in a club when American R&B bands, Jagged Edge were performing at Kingston Oceana. The crowd recognised who Jayvic was and persuaded him to perform on stage. Jayvic loves and respects his fans so he granted them their request. His electrifying performance drove the crowd wild and they chanted his name repeatedly until he left the stage. Jagged Edge were also impressed by Jayvic’s performance and offered him some words of advice. In 2010, Jayvic received more adoration from his fans when he performed live on SKY LOVEWORLD TV and shortly after that he was signed with Standard Records. His forthcoming album, "Wreckless," reflects Jayvic's passion for romance and tells of his past experiences.
