Jean Chatillon Jean Chatillon was born into a family of musicians in Nicolet, Québec, in 1937. In 1951 he began playing piano and composing. Although initially self-taught, he went on to do serious musical studies with Maestro Conrad Letendre in Montréal. In 1969 he founded la Section de musique at l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, where he taught until his retirement in 1981. Since then, he has been able to dedicate himself entirely to his art. In 1976 he founded a publishing house called Les Éditions de l'Écureuil Noir. In 1996 he joined a group of composers called 'Les Mélodistes Indépendants' and collaborated in producing the book 'Pour l'amour de la Musique.' In the spring of 2000, he composed 'Valse pour l'Echappée Belle' which, not long after that, was chosen as the theme for a Radio-Canada programme. In 2001 he launched a successful series of musical exchanges via the Internet. In 2003 he was named Professor emeritus by l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. In January 2004 he became a founding member of the Delian Society, dedicated to the rebirth of tonal music. During the years 2004 and 2005 he revised and edited the complete four-volume works of musical theory by Conrad Letendre. He has been accepted as a composer by the Canadian Center for Music.
