DARVOSET www.myspace.com/darvoset www.darvoset.4t.com DARVOSET, a Riverside/Orange County based band, plays Synth oriented rock music with powerful and sultry female lead vocals. No girly, la di da nursery rhymes here. Harsh, melodic, electronic rock that's dark, ballsy, sexy, danceable, funky, and very original. Darvoset defies categories and blandness. They do not want to be put in a box, labeled, and sealed away. The best way to describe them is as a "musical sponge". They soak up all that has been, mix it together, and spit it all out as Darvoset. They love all kinds of music, and it's evident in their diverse songwriting:classical, jazz, ragtime, and symphonic influences. And of course, the rock era: 50's piano based rock and roll (Flamboyancy, rawness) 60's British invasion, (melodies, songwriting), 70’s disco and punk (attitude, energy, danciness), 80’s new wave and synth pop (image, production, keyboards), 90's alternative and Industrial/goth (sexual, jaded, metaphoric, and thought provoking lyrics), and horror soundtracks set to hyper kinetic drum patterns (electronic and hip-hop beats) - all colliding to make the future. Yes, it sounds like it could be a mess, but it all fits nicely together. You must listen to them to understand. Darvoset began about 3 years ago. The current lineup is a 5 piece, consisting of- JAY (keys, bass, guitar, songwriting), KRISTINE (vocals, lyrics), DREW (drum machines, lyrics, live drums), RANDY (keys, samples, effects), and GENO (live guitars). The band's music has been described as an angrier Duran Duran with Siousxie Sioux of the Banshees singing lead. Another comparison has been Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics singing in a hard rock band with trip hop beats. Or Blondie updated for the modern age. All these descriptions are accurate, and inaccurate at the same time. Darvoset are both familiar (you'll recognize their influences in the music) and unfamiliar(their own sound- not a rip off of any one artist). The biggest compliment they get, and what they are most proud of, is that they are indeed "different". They are not about being faithful to one genre; they are a true hybrid of musical styles. Darvoset has spent the last 2 years touring, helping to sell out shows with Berlin, Orgy, 30 Seconds To Mars, Flock Of Seagulls, Bow Wow Wow, ABC, The Human League, etc.... They have a loyal and growing fan base, and have made a name for themselves in a very short time. Radio stations around the world have added them to their playlists, and report lots of requests and an overall excellent response to their music. It’s just a matter of time before they explode into the mainstream of the world’s music scene. Darvoset has no silly self imposed “rules” to their creation of music. They are not afraid to do what they want; happy or sad, dark or light. The subjects they write about reflect all aspects of life- situations real to themselves, experienced by others, and imagined. Some song topics include sex, politics, relationships, love, hate, drug abuse, the pain of suffering a medical ailment, frustration, joy, celebrity, and horror scenes the band has loved from the movies. They tell it as they see it, and are relatable to a lot of people. Their influences range from Metallica to the Bee Gees, the Beatles to Depeche Mode, Earth Wind and Fire to rap, and everything in between. Their music is for all walks of life, from gangsters to grandmas. Brutality and beauty united. Darvoset is about expression, both musical and personal. Their views and image are as unique as their sound. The band never knows what mood will come out of them, but one thing's for sure: Darvoset will continue to explore all forms of music, and will produce quality songs every "type" of music fan can enjoy. You have to listen to them to understand.
