Bio
Music has been the main occupation for the whole of both my working & personal life. As a child my parents listened to a lot of classical music thus instilling an early appreciation for music. As a teenager I started listening to Blues & was very impressed with Blues players such as Muddy Waters & B.B. King, inspiring me to learn guitar. I was then influenced by the rock scene of the late '60's, early '70's. Later I became interested in the Jazz fusion movement of the late '70's a la John McLaughlin & Carlos Santana. I was at this time taking jazz guitar lessons with George Golla in Sydney. When I started traveling extensively overseas, I met some fine contemporary jazz musicians in Europe. I was now influenced by John Coltrane & Miles Davis. I did, at this stage, take up Double Bass & was also interested in the classical side. I took lessons with Madame Martellet, who came from a family of very fine cello & double bass players. She was a member of the French National Orchestra. Upon returning to Sydney in the early '80's I joined the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. At the same time developing my mainstream jazz repertoire, playing in a wide variety of Sydney Jazz venues. I also continued my jazz Double Bass development at the Sydney Conservatorium with Craig Scott. After marrying & moving to the Hunter Valley I played in one of Newcastle's top trad jazz bands for 3 years, which proved a further great asset in jazz rhythm section playing. In the early '90's, as the recession hit the music industry, we moved to Melbourne. During this lean period I started teaching music from home & also joined the Frankston Symphony Orchestra. I played Double Bass initially but as my cello skills advanced I was also playing cello with the orchestra. We moved to Albury, NSW, in 1999 due to purchasing a music shop. We built a booming music school within the shop, at this time. In 2005 we separated the school away from the retail business & it has been operating successfully as an independent entity since then. I provide tuition on guitar, electric bass, double bass, cello & violin. With styles covering Blues, Rock, Jazz & Classical on all instruments. The school has 10 teachers on just about all main instruments. Here is the link to the school site: [link="http://www.alburymusicschool.com.au"] Albury Music School [/link] Since moving here I have been working continuously in the regional jazz scene. I also play in small classical ensembles which have performed at many wedding ceremonies & other functions.
