The Zen Hussies are a 7-piece Bristol based band formed in 2001 and renowned for their energetic live peformances at festivals and clubs throughout Europe. Their music might be described as jazz for the post-punk generation, drawing on a number of genres poured into the heady stew they like to call 'Goodtime Swingska Boogaloo'. Their songs 'lodge in the head like well aimed bullets' (Venue Magazine 2005) and are the product of songwriter Jules Landau's memorable lyrical turns and the band's versatile and often surprising arrangements. Capable of stamina sapping live sets, The Zen Hussies translate very well to recording, and never fail to win over audiences wherever they play, be it stage, street or festival. Many better known acts have indeed found The Zen Hussies a tough act to follow, but we shan't name names! Their first full length LP, a DIY affair called Flatfoot Sharpsuit (tracks of which are featured here) has enjoyed much favourable review, and the band are currently at work on a new full length LP of original material as we speak.
