Bio
Jo-Ann Lawton has been around the music scene since the early 1980s. Ottawa born, Burlington raised & London aged, this south western Ontario songwriter and singer, used to perform almost exclusively only original material, but since being introduced to the ukulele, her repertoire has expanded to include many cover tunes: mostly well loved songs from decades gone by. As a member of the folk duo Sirens, Jo-Ann Lawton earned C.F.M.A. {Canadian Folk Music Award} nomination (for Best Vocal Group)in 2007. Sirens disbanded in September of 2009. After starting to play the ukulele, Jo-Ann has re-found her musical niche. She now spends most of her time and musical energies, not as a singer/songwriter any more, but helping to forge an ensemble of up to six female ukulele performers into a cohesive entity: the Ukellettes. The Ukellettes now perform at various functions around the area. Since she discovered the ukulele, Jo-Ann has added many traditional and old-time-favourite songs to her repertoire. You might find her playing at various Old Folks Homes in the area, either solo, or in various of the Ukellettes combinations. Jo-Ann's jo-annlawton.com website has been closed.
