Playing shows with touring Aussie bands like Kisschasy, Something with Numbers, Avalon Drive and Angela’s Dish just to name a few. The MusicOz Awards for 2006 have nominated Streetlight Theatre as a top 5 finalist in the category of Pop. At 24 years old the guys have since matured from the standard pop song formula at age 15 to squeezing a life’s worth of experience into three and a half minutes and capturing something unique while retaining that all important pop element. Their sound can be described as a mix of emotion charged ballads, simple anthems and good musicianship. Intriguing bass lines that somehow twist and meld perfectly with the main melody are a result of the unity present within the band as they weave their versatility around their multi genre’d backgrounds My Addiction (the EP opener) shows the band’s influences (The Killers, Motion City Soundtrack and Panic! At The Disco) The listener is immediately hooked on the catchy melodies from Keep Up and finds that the lyrics are readily applied to anyone who has been that one step behind the ‘other person’ Falling Star and First Exit demonstrate the band’s luscious piano-based composition and rhythmic abilities, and Cigarettes is the most involuntary mobile phone raising (since real cigarette lighters are so uncool) song written by an Australian band in a long long time. Streetlight Theatre are a band that have been influenced by a good many bands but remain true to the kind of music that is truly unique to themselves. Their first EP is a singular collection that should be heard by anyone and everyone who believes that music provides the soundtrack for real life. With pre-production of their debut album underway, it’s the perfect teaser.
