Born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Joshua Alo bonded an affinity between conscious roots reggae and the beauties of God's creations. As a youth, he began strumming the ukulele and acoustic six deep into the night on the rhythmic shores of the island. In early 1999, Joshua enlisted in the U.S. Air Force which provided him a broad global experience and cultural understanding. Since then he has lived in Japan, Belgium, Italy and the Kingdom of Bahrain, traveled to 21 countries including 1 deployment to Oman and 2 to Iraq. Everywhere he goes he sings conscious acoustic roots reggae to anyone who will listen. He writes and sings from the depths of his heart bringing forth visions of his experiences, gained knowledge and insight from his walk and faith in a world of political and spiritual unrest where both truth and lie lay in front of our eyes. With his album/demo “Answer Your Calling”, Joshua prays that one and all muster the courage to do just that! Son of man sets the example. Following the Most High's will for your life and never selling your dreams for “Security.” To stand firm amongst blind guides in a world of darkness, all we need is faith. May God bless you. Just by you viewing this page, you are supporting Joshua to get the message of the Most High across as he is currently stationed in the middle east and cannot physically network his music. A member of the United States Air Force, Alo has lived all around the world but was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii, and he brings that tropical sound to his debut album, Answer Your Calling. This is "hammock music": swaying, peaceful, and gorgeous, suited for sunset on a secluded beach, whether you're in the mood for love or for meditation. It's the latter that Alo is more concerned with here, as titles like "Faith," "Answer Your Calling," "Light Over Darkness," and "Paradise" reflect his spiritual (though not necessarily Rasta) inclination. The laid-back music is conducive to deep thought, Alo's acoustic guitar and ukulele adding a specific Hawaiian twist to the roots and lovers riddims -- even though, ironically enough, the album was recorded in Italy (presumably while he was stationed there) with a local band, Zion Love. There's an expansive, almost jazzy sense to the music, with long instrumental stretches (several tracks open with extended guitar intros) that make everything in the world seem just a bit calmer. Sure, it's odd to see a soldier singing in a genre that's notoriously anti-establishment, but judging Alo by his profession alone ignores the individual -- an individual who has crafted a triumphant debut that is hopefully the first of more to come. www.reggae-reviews.com - From Irie's feel good mood to the last track on the album, Joshua finds a way to captivate our minds with the cultivation of our dreams through inspirational ballads such as Answer Your Calling, and Faith. Although classified under roots reggae, the genre in which he falls under could be better described as simply conscious music; music for the mind, body and soul. Blessed as a beautiful song writer his greatest attribute is his one of a kind voice that grabs your attention which in turn grasps your mind. He masterfully balances the album switching from uplifting songs of the human inner tribulation such as Stand Firm to heart melting love songs such as Dreaming. Living in a world filled with so much negativity and tyranny; Joshua's album Answer Your Calling is a refreshing wake up call to get up off of your sorrows and LIVE! Akua Bless, Keanu Agbayani Poet Beautifully arranged and produced. It is a part of the Chaplains musical library and brothers are lining up to check it out. The soothing, relaxing affect it had on me was definitely needed. I guess loving, spiritual words combined with acoustic guitar and sounds of nature are exactly what the doctor ordered, an excellent piece of work. ("Paradise" & "A Thing Called Love" are among my favorite tracks). Tizoc Heru Az-zu / MaJAHsty House of Rastafari
