SCOTT HERON He studied at the City of Belfast School of Music where he now teaches. He was awarded a scholarship to study the cello with David Strange at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where his Grandfather studied the organ. He then went on to read music at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. He completed his Masters in Performance in 2006, at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, obtaining a distinction, with cellist Robert Irvine, where he won numerous prizes. While there, Scott was given the opportunity to play with the 'Hebrides Ensemble' in the Academy's 'Side by Side' project. In the Summer of 2005, Scott was awarded a full scholarship to attend the 'Applehill Centre for Chamber Music', USA. As a freelance player in Ireland, Scott has played with numerous orchestras including the RTE Symphony Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and Camerata Ireland. Scott has appeared on dvd, radio, and CD, with many artists including Daniel O'Donnell, Brian Kennedy, Hailey Westonrah, and the rock group Leya. He is a founder member of the Dennison String Quartet (1989). The quartet has been on numerous tours with Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now! Scheme and Music Network in Dublin and has recorded for film, CD. Scott plays with the Brian Irvine Ensemble, a contemporary music group, which appears at music festivals around the world including Great Britain, Ireland,Germany, France, Portugal, Poland, Belgium, Cyprus, Malta and Russia. They are invited to play in the USA in April 2007, and appeared in last year's Belfast Festival at Queens. Scott is cellist with the Jazz Trio 'Blue Jar' (Lesley Dennison on violin/vocals and Tommy Locke on guitar). Already this group has started to make a name for itself, being invited to play at music festivals around Ireland, including the 2006 Cork Jazz Festival, and released their album 'Ducks and Geese' in July 2005, to critical acclaim. Scott has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, in performances of the Elgar, Dvorak, Brahms "Double" Concerto, Bruch's "Kol Nidrei" , Faure's "Elegy"and Vivalidi's concerto for 2 cellos, with Robert Irvine. Scott recently performed the Korngold Cello Concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, through his Masters course, and played Tchaikovsky's 'Rococo' Variations with the Glasgow Sinfonia in November 2006.
