Bio
The White Ravens were born on a cold Christmas day in 2003 when bassist and vocalist Amy Bennett asked her keyboard playing brother, Will, if he wanted to start a rock band. They combine strange but melodic keyboard compositions with biting lyrics and distinctive vocals. Many of the Bennett's inspirations and musical influences start with the letter"B": Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bach, and Bertold Brecht. Non-B influences include: Monty Python, Gilbert and Sullivan, They Might Be Giants, honky tonk, gypsy, and all kinds of alternative music. The band plays live with oustanding musicians Vince Russo on drums and Andrew Brown on guitar. Fans of the Dresden Dolls, They Might Be Giants, The White Stripes, and The Killers also like The White Ravens. The White Ravens were awarded Best International/USA/Out of Province Band for the 2010 Toronto Independent Music Awards. Their newest CD, Gargoyles and Weather Vanes, was released July 2010 at the Borders Bookstore flagship store in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It has been picked up for distribution in record stores. and their songs are available through outlets that include: itunes, CDBaby, and the Borders Bookstore chain. In September they toured the east coast, including performing at venues in Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston. In May, they played live across Canada on Toronto's Breakfast Television and were invited to play at the prestigious Pop Montreal International Music Festival. They receive airplay on jango internet radio and have built up a substantial fan base in the U.S., Canada, and around the world. In 2009 a song collaboration with UK artist, Andy Johnson, received airplay on the BBC radio across the UK. They also receive airplay on the local, alternative Ann Arbor radio station, WCBN.
