Young Parkend musician took part in the Gwent Youth Brass Solo & Quartet Contest held in the Y.M.C.A. in Newport, last Saturday and came away with four, 1st places for his baritone playing. The sections he won were:- 14 and 15 years old Slow Melody 15 years and under Air Varie Open Slow Melody Open Air Varie The adjudicators for the day were Helen and Glyn Williams from the Foden’s Band. At the end of July, Ben is off to Repton in Derbyshire for a weeks course with the National Children’s Band of Great Britain and then the following week he is off to Scotland for a course with the National Youth Band of Scotland which is being held at St. Andrews University. Ben’s next engagement is at Parkend Church on Saturday 19th June at 7pm for the Yvonne Walkerdine Bursary where he is joined by the Drybrook Ladies Choir, the combined school choirs of Lydney C of E and Yorkley and Quintessential Brass.
