It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s The Grey Owls, baby! And they’re coming to ruffle your feathers…in a good way. Ashes and remains from previous bands...make up the first truly great rock n' roll band of the 21st century! Striving to set themselves apart from the rest, The Grey Owls excel, creating rock n' roll that's unheard of today! A throwback to yesteryear, with raw live energy that'll make you fly high!! In the early months of 2009, two refugees from the Toronto-based blues/rock band Frayed (Jordan Faye and Travis Thoms) collided with ex-Fortunates singer/guitarist Brian Scarth and a few different bassists, to form a vehicle for Jordan’s songwriting in a four-piece rock band setting. It wasn’t long before Brian began contributing his own songs, and the true band aesthetic was put into play. Influenced by the sounds of 1960s/1970s rock n’ roll, folk, alt country and the best bits of today’s indie rock scene, these four musicians have created their own organic music that is unique, with an eye cast back to the late 60s/early 70s scene. But don't be mistaken - they're not a carbon copy of bands of years gone by. They are fresh and full of raw energy. Tight harmonies and the jangle of the electric 12-string meet fluid Telecaster lines and creative bass runs, backed with primal percussive power. Listen to their recordings. Go see them play. Their head-bobbin’/foot-stompin’/hand-clappin’/toe-tappin’ rock n’ roll will assure you that The Grey Owls are no fly by night group. Think The Byrds meets Creedence Clearwater Revival meets The Rolling Stones meets Sam Roberts to get an idea of their sound. Jordan Faye - Vocals/Guitars Travis Thoms - Drums Bran Scarth - Guitars/Vocals Dave Haffey - Bass Jordan Faye - heads the band. His electric 12-string, along with his stage presence and raw high-tempo energy is second to none! The jangles of his guitar give you shivers, and his solos are a true art! His songwriting abilities can easily compete with some of the best. He has a plan, and it’s taking shape! Travis Thoms - has a mind that identifies with 1960s & 1970s; back when the drums were simple and complimented the songs, rather than overpowering and taking over the songs. So his vision for drums is modeled after the philosophies of simpler times when music was real! He goes by the “less is more” theory, and holds it true. Brian Scarth - a distinctive voice along with providing energetic guitar riffs and melodies, both on electric and acoustic, help the band progress in numerous ways. Adding vocal harmonies to songs is an option the band longed for. Also as a song writing contributor, he is a key element that Jordan and Travis sought after. [link="http://www.myspace.com/thegreyowls"]www.myspace.com/thegreyowls[/link] Influences include: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Oasis, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Guess Who, Neil Young, The Byrds, The Troggs, The Allman Brothers, Three Dog Night, The Move, Bob Dylan, The Band, Johnny Cash, The Kinks, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, The Hollies, The Grateful Dead, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Tommy James & The Shondells, James Taylor, Townes Van Zandt, Gordon Lightfoot, Gene Clark, Badfinger, Tom Petty, Harry Nilsson, Roy Orbison, Blue Rodeo, Eric Clapton, Hank Williams Jr, Peter Frampton, The Small Faces, The Stooges, The Faces, The Doors, Drive-By Truckers, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Jimi Hendrix, Simon & Garfunkel, The Black Crowes, The Yardbirds, CSN&Y, The Doobie Brothers, Canned Heat, Norman Greenbaum, The Jayhawks, Moby Grape...1960s & 1970s rock n' roll!
