Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, [b]Chiu-Yu [/b]began her piano lessons at the age of four. She formally studied composition from the second year in senior high school with Prof. Lee, Zi-Sheng and received BA and MFA in composition from the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) under the direction of Prof. Lai, Deh-Ho and Yang, Tsung-Hsien. After doing a doctoral program at TNUA for two years, she is currently a PhD student at the University of Manchester, where she is supervised by Prof. Philip Grange. Recent honors include Literature and Art Creation Award held by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (2003, 2004, 2009), Overseas Research Student Fellowship (2009) and Dartington Financial Assistance Award (2009). Her music has been performed at many events including Nong Project (2005 Korea), Contemporary Vocal Music (2006 Taipei), Taipei New Generation of Computer Music (2007, 2008), Taipei Traditional Arts Festival (2008), Selected Repertoire of National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (2008), Asian Contemporary Music Festival (2009 Korea), and NTSO New Music Series (2009).
