Welcome to Metal Desert\'s site! Metal Desert (Joshua Barrett), was born on the 25th of May 1994, in Crewe, England. From an early age, his mum played 60\'s Motown, 70\'s Retro and 80\'s Soul throughout the house, from then on he was hooked. At age 11 he enrolled in Malbank High School, a school that specialised in performing arts. While there he was introduced to the piano at 12 and after begging his mum for piano lessons, he became engrossed in classical music, particularly Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Debussy. After just 3 months of piano, he fell in love with it, so much that he started practising fanatically, 6 hours a day if he could. However it wasn\'t an obligation to him, it was a passion. At 13, Forte was introduced to classic jazz, Fats Waller, Herbie Hancock, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington among his favourites. This was the genre of music that really stole his heart, the unpredictable and adventurous sound opened a new door for him. During secondary school, Desert was very studious, academic and hard-working, instead of messing around and getting into trouble, he focused on his studies and above all else, his piano. Also, he was taught how to compose in his music lessons in school and began writing, arranging, and composing, for all instruments, Desert wrote \"Destiny\" at 14 years old. In his later years at secondary school, he enrolled in choir, he loved the harmonies and the richness of tone, so, on top of all his studies and piano, he started teaching himself how to sing. Once when he was listening to Nina Simone he thought, why don\'t I play and sing at the same time too? So that\'s what he did.
