Bio
More than 30 years ago, it was a band that provided the musical backdrop for an artist. In today’s music, the producer has replaced the band, giving an artist the musical landscape to express themselves. For more than a year Hugh “Hurricane” Lawson and Sullivan “Joker” Brown, also known as Dirty Jokerz LLC, have been supplying up-and-coming Hartford talent with superb beats and music for more than a year. With Lawson behind the switch board as the sound engineer/mix technician and Brown creating the beats, Dirty Jokerz has constructed more than 150 riddems ranging from hardcore foundation, one-drop, and dancehall. Their repertoire of riddems include Pocomania, Block Dem Out, Armed Riffle, Strike Back, and Back in the Days to name a few. But more than just reggae, the duo also puts together hip-hop beats, r-n-b, neo-soul, techno, and even alternative rock. “Our sound is somewhere between dramatic and ambient,” says Brown. “Being that I use a lot of electronic sounds, our music would be reminiscent of electronica, but in a dancehall, hip-hop, or whatever genre format we are trying to create.” Lawson cites the diversity of the music is due to being influenced by a wide range of music. “I’ve been influenced by an array of different musical genres,” says Lawson. “Everything from 80s pop, new wave, techno, roots rock reggae, and dancehall.” A unique sound, with many different influences is not the only thing that sets Dirty Jokerz apart from other producers. Artists are able to receive exceptional music from a stellar production team at a reasonable price. “We put out good quality of music,” says Brown. “A lot of artist go to big studios and end up having to pay big money for music, but they can come here to our studios and receive the same quality of music and pay less money.” Aside from being a production team, Dirty Jokerz also has several artists that they are managing. Artist that they are managing include Renzo Madout, Black Blingaz, Bad Breed, J-Starr, Koppa C, D-Idol, and Mack Drizzy. Currently, Dirty Jokerz are continuing to produce for any local artist that is serious about music, while managing their ever growing roster of artists. However, the group is not looking to limit themselves, and as for who they would like to work with, the skies the limit. “We are going to continue making money, throw parties, and we have three albums completed by our solo artist,” said Lawson. “We are also looking to work with some bigger and more established artist.” Brown said that being a part of Dirty Jokerz has fed his passion for making music, and it’s a blessing “to so something that you love forever.” There are several avenues on the internet to receive more information about Dirty Jokerz and to hear musical samples.
