Bio
Rob Russell calls Calgary, Alberta home and is often touted as a Saltwater Cowboy having been born and raised in Newfoundland. Moving west, after school, was the perfect destination for this country boy at heart. Making a living, and raising a family, Rob enjoyed singing at house parties, and with the family around a campfire, he never gave a music career much thought. Then, in 2003, with some friends, Rob formed his first band. He began small, as a 3 piece and started landing a few gigs in and around Calgary. It was while playing at a Maritime restaurant, Da Rock that Rob Russell discovered the euphoric feeling of playing on stage for even the smallest crowd. Inside a year of playing in small pubs, Robs’ desire was to become bigger and better, and with a following of fans, and the meeting of his Manager, Pamela Poole, it was inevitable that his weekend hobby blossomed into a music career.! His first single, a remake of Marshall Tucker Bands’, Can't You See was released on Canada Day 2004 in front of 15000 people. This entire experience reinforced his desire of becoming a successful recording artist. Rob gathered up his many paper scraps of song lyrics and penned a few songs for his first album. A traditional lyricist, Rob enjoys writing songs that tell a story, a song that will stir up an emotion, whether it’s tears or laughter, his writing style hits a chord with most. A year later, in 2005, Rob recorded and released his self-title debut album, a total of ten original tracks. His first three singles; "Willie B Boogie", "Beer Bottle Brown" and "Our Guardian Angel" all saw success at commercial radio across Canada, with positions in the top 100 of the Cancountry charts. "The Old Man", has been making waves around the world and the east coast has enjoyed his single, "The Rock in the Sand". With a taste of radio, and the fame that comes along with it, interviews, autographs and bigger performances, 2006 was a big year for Rob. Working with one of Canada's top Producers', Bart McKay on his second album, and releasing "Just Walk Away" in conjunction with his CCMA Showcase Performance; Rob reached another plateau in his music career! The highly coveted stage in reserved for 10 artists each year, and the weekend was highly successful meeting the best artists and country music professionals in Canada! 2007 has been a year of anticipation, with many new roads paving the way to success for his next album release. Clear Channel Broadcasting USA featured Rob on their New Music web sites for 5 months as an artist to 'keep an eye on'. His addition to TM Century's Hit Disc out of Texas, certainly raised some eyebrows with broadcasters across North America. He was in good company the week John Mellencamp, and Brad Paisley released singles. Performances this year have included a private rodeo function for 2300 international delegates at the famed Nashville North - Calgary Stampede, as well as an appearance at the Big Valley Jamboree, one of Canada's largest country music festivals. The winter months ahead, Rob looks to complete his album and prepare for a 2008 spring tour. Stay tuned with all his news, performance dates by visiting his official web site.
