About Paul Turner His songs are imbued with genuine life experiences and observations. Turner has traveled widely both geographically and spiritually to arrive at a point where he can create music that is both intimate and universally appealing. His songs are full of wonder and yearning to share what he has found on his personal journey. They’re bright and whimsical, wistful and mysterious, deeply romantic and as effervescent as life itself. Melodies sparkle, rise and fall, not a note wasted, or a phrase out of place. Turner exemplifies a great large degree of maturity and songwriting class on his debut album ‘Clear Blue’, a 10-track release. Turner has crafted a handful of quietly devastating meditations on life and love -- and delivered them with a raspy soulful vocal all his own. Soft controlled vocals, lovely, lush instrumentation and arrangements, and songs that stick with you well after they’re finished. Some of the best examples of this are found in tracks like 'Love Meteorite’, which climbs and rises with every verse or the beautiful ‘Poison’, a softer, calmer song that swirls around you. The haunting song ‘Room’ is mesmerising. Turner says the song was sparked initially by an experience he had in Kashmir, and later turned into a song about the questionable pursuit of science and technology in modern life. The whole of society has been dragged away from reality, it seems. His songs have inspired renowned producers and engineers to work with him such as Adrian Hannan (Taxiride, The Superjesus, Creed) and Brent Clark (Alex Lloyd, Midnight Oil, Alanis Morrisette). Turner has been influenced along the way by artists as diverse as Neil Young, Cat Stevens and AC/DC, but you wont hear any direct musical correlation to their work in his songs.
