Bio
VISIT myspace.com/ianbritt for sales and more info Biog: Born and bread a long, long, not too long time ago in Sheffield, England. Moving on after a colourful youth & adolescence in Sheffield, Ian fled his roots to study music in the notoriously musical city of Manchester. He remained here for seven years, achieved 1st degree honours in Popular Music and Sound Recording, then moving on and signing to the independent label Jalapeno Records of London whilst making himself a name locally as an acoustic singer-writer-performer-player-person-of-music… An album was recorded over a lengthy three year period with a duo of dance/breaks producers and on release was met with a positive and encouraging reaction from national/regional press/radio. The album (One Day i…) culminated in a grand and commandingly produced, soulful, Trans-Atlantic sound with mature, honest, sometimes humorous lyrical writing, assured technical ability and a keen melodic pop-rock-radio sensibility. iAnbRitt performs constantly in the U.K and more recently in Europe. Over the years he has honed his acoustic shows into authoritative and arresting performances (“Ian is most definitely one to catch this year” Ali B-capitol FM.) Gigs of note: SXSW, In the City, The Big Chill festival, Radio 1-live weekend. Supports: Justin Nozuko, Seth Lakeman, Jah Wobble, Mark Morriss (blue tones,) Josh Pyke… and more… Ian Britt split from his management and label in early 2006 to separate himself from the vision and direction of those people around him, moved back to his hometown of Sheffield and has spent the last year exploring, touring, writing and self recording. iAnbRitt has just released his second album entitled “Big Light” and is currently looking for label support, press reaction and radio contact to help promote the work. iAnbRitt is about to begin recording his second album independently with a view to releasing in the autumn… after that… who knows… the plot can only thicken… and there in the chaos lies the beauty… iAnbRitt is also part of a side project called IKON, a collective of artists who collaborate on lounge, breaks and beats. iAnbRitt wrote two tracks appearing on the next IKON album, one of which “Dirty Girl” has already appeared in Pete Tong’s eclectic mix (Radio One.) He is currently looking for other projects for collaborations, guest musicianship and writing opportunities Influences Randy Newman, Talking heads, Paul Simon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nick Drake, Van Halen, Led Zeplin, Damien Rice, Tom Mcrae, The White Stripes, Sonic Boom 6, Bernard Fanning, Springsteen, Counting Crows, Crosby Stills and Nash, Free, Eminem, Jack Johnson, Huey Lewis and the News, Micheal Jackson, john Frusciante, Johnny Cash, Jose Gonzalez, Prince, Queen, The Racontuers Press “We still haven’t managed to categorise iAnbRitt. And we’re not even going to try. His album doesn’t sound like a dance record. Despite hero worshipping Hendrix and Cream, you won’t really find any electric guitar pyrotechnics. And yet it doesn’t really fit into the singer-songwriter box either… And therein lays its delight. You’re thrown back to Duke Ellington’s old prescription that there are only two kinds of music – the good and the bad.” Nigel Williamson. Uncut and The Guardian. “A stunningly accomplished debut (album.) Steeped in the quality end of roots American singer-song writing... There’s some exceptionally tasteful guitar playing throughout the album. It’s the kind of artful yet unpretentious material…to find an audience in the U.S…” Paul Taylor. Manchester Evening news. “iAnbRitt’s style is the perfect antidote to the likes of James Blunt, who’s… plugging his painful MFI School of song writing…. iAnbRitt’s album is the result of two years touring and a lifetimes observations.” David Dunn. Sheffield Star. “Definitely one to watch out for in 2008…” BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe “I don’t know why the fuck you bother.” Richard Hall. Best Friend. myspace.com/ianbritt
