Stead One, a.k.a. "The General" was born Matthew Steadman on February 26, 1984 in Stamford, Connecticut USA. He rose to prominence as a battle rapper and started appearing on many mixtapes. Stead One is known for his superb freestyling ability.
As a pure lyricist cut from the same cloth as Drag-On, Grafh and Eminem, the 26-year old Stead One honed his abilities in ciphers and battles all over his native Stamford and most of Fairfield County. " I’m just young and hungry," adds Stead One. "I can freestyle for hours, but I also have a large vocabulary."
Stead One started taking rap music seriously in 1998. In high school, Stead One battled for fun while turning to the streets to economically keep himself afloat. After being challenged by a friend to take rapping seriously, Stead One assigned himself to battling the champion of "The Cipher" in the streets of Stamford. The streets soon crowned Stead One the new champion. “There was good competition, but being challenged is exciting to me." Says Stead One.
One of the best rap artist to ever bless the state of CT with his lyrical format and use of word play. His urban/storytelling/comical style blends the street hip hop with life struggles and everyday ethics in his community and other neighborhood across the country. His music will leave you begging for more and more. Stead One is definently an unique artist in his generation and for years to come.
Originating in Stamford, CT West Side neighborhood as a click and now spreading out all over, Darkcyde Music Group LLC. is a label ran by Matthew "Stead One" Steadman.
