March 7, 1984...the day it all begins for an emcee. Mercenary, born and raised in Detroit, MI was delivered on this day. 7 years later, within him, an artist is born. Influenced by such artists as LL Cool J, Run DMC, BDP, NWA, Tribe Called Qwest, Tupac, Rakim and at the time, Kriss Kross a freestyle was kicked over a karaoke machine in a friend's basement. That's how it all started.
By the age of 10, knowing that it took more than a quick tongue to become a true lyricist, Mercenary penned his first rhyme. From that point, nothing changed except for his caliber as an artist. Starting off on the playground rhymes were being rehearsed along side his friends. 9th grade at Cass Technical High School began a jump-off to small time fame through the Detroit Public School District.
10th grade comes around, Mercenary begins an assault after transferring to Murray-Wright High School. Never backing down from any emcee, his skills were increased through constant battles with peers. By 12th grade in 2002, he had become known as one of the hottest emcees. This partially due to the fact that he had already sealed the fate of two completed albums, and multiple wins at open-mic competitions.
On March 30, 2002, he performed alongside his best friend/brother Laurence "Anubiz" Sapp at Wayne State Univeristy's Fire & Ice talent showcase as the group Marvelous. Unfortunately, Anubiz was lost in December of 2003, trapped in cross-fire. This situation sparked Mercenary to march even harder toward greatness by laying down another album.
There is no way to tell exactly how many albums Mercenary has sold, nor does it matter to him...He's being heard. That's what matters. And from an emcee, a legend will be born. From that legend, a legacy.
